Technique
before everything.

Private lessons built around one principle: understand why the ball goes where it goes, and build the habits that hold under pressure.

Not rallying for
the sake of it

Most players have drilled their mistakes thousands of times. The goal of these sessions is to interrupt that, identify the mechanical root of what is going wrong, and replace it with something that works under match conditions.

Sessions are adapted mainly to NTRP level 3.5 through 4.5. Whether you are building consistency for the first time or refining a specific shot to hold up under pressure, the approach is the same: understand the mechanism, drill it correctly, then test it under realistic conditions.

I
Footwork first
The split step is non-negotiable. Everything else flows from arriving in the right position before the ball does.
II
Early preparation
Recognize forehand versus backhand early. Start the unit turn before you need to. Control and power come from preparation, not panic at contact.
III
Contact in front
Meet the ball well in front of the body. Engage hip and shoulder without spinning away from the shot.
IV
Placement over power
Angles and depth win more points than pace. Mix short and deep, add slice, vary height, and disturb rhythm.
Level Consistency Serve & Return Tactical maturity
3.5 Can sustain medium rallies and direct the ball with moderate pace, but breaks down under pressure. First serve is developing, second serve can sit up, and returns are often safe rather than assertive. Starting to recognize patterns, but usually plays one speed and one shape.
4.0 More reliable from both wings and better balance between offense and control. Serve has clearer shape and placement. Return is more active and starts the point with purpose. Uses depth, angles and court position more intentionally. Can identify weaker patterns in the opponent.
4.5 Stable under pace, comfortable changing direction, absorbs and redirects pressure. Serve is a weapon more often than a formality. Return can neutralize or attack with intent. Builds points with a plan, varies tempo and understands when to defend, hold or attack.

Lessons shaped to the
players in front of me

Instruction is adapted to the level, strengths and challenges of each individual player. Beginners, intermediate players and more advanced competitors all require different keys to unlock the next step. A lesson should not feel like wearing someone else's racket shoes.

Coach Hans Christian Oppegaard has no formal tennis education beyond the Norwegian “Trener 1” course completed in the 1980s. Nevertheless, he has many years of practical experience in tennis technique and instruction, working with both beginners and more advanced players, and keeps closely updated on modern tennis and coaching methods.
